Win for Camier…..

www.leoncamier.com

After his stunning win at the opening round of the British Superbike Championship a couple of weeks ago at Brands Hatch, Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier continued his winning form last night, (Tuesday 28th April). Camier, who has been working and training extremely hard on his road push bike over the winter, took his first cycling event win at Lydden Hill.

The 22-year-old from Kent took up cycling mid way through last season and raised it to a more serious level during the off season with his trainer Julian Clark and brother Alex. Camier who spent the winter in Australia with former World Moto-GP Champion Casey Stoner, has only entered into a handful of cycling events since his return to the UK in the middle of February. Camier and Stoner spent many hours in Oz cycling and testing each other to the limit in preparation for their tough 2009 race season.

The race at Lydden Hill was full of strong cyclists from the South East area and all were eager to get the win. The hour long race plus five laps was a game of skill, fitness and timing. Camier, who got away with the front runners kept a steady pace until the closing stages and sat in a comfortable position at the end of the hour. The youngster knew he needed to pace himself and dig deep if he was going to secure the win.

Tagging on the back of Top Category One racer Phil Anthony, Camier settled into a good rhythm behind him and followed him through to the front with five laps remaining. Planning his move strategically Camier made a late play to the front with only ¾ of a lap remaining. Leaving a sprint finish to the end the Airwaves Yamaha rider certainly managed to ‘kick up a gear’ and take his first strong cycling win.

Camier is now preparing himself for round two of the British Superbike series at Oulton Park this weekend and is feeling strong as he heads to the picturesque track in Cheshire. For up to date details of his progress at Oulton please visit www.leoncamier.com.
